Private Helicopter Pilot License

Pre-requisites:
17 years of age; Category 1 or 3 medical certificate |
Minimum Flying Experience: 45 hours (30 hours for holders of PPL-A)*
Knowledge: 40 hours ground school (20 hours for holders of PPL-A) Pass the Transport Canada flight test Pass the written exam (60% or better) *In most cases, the minimum is insufficient preparation for the flight test. Students should plan to add approximately 15 - 20 hours of flight training. |

Commercial Helicopter Pilot License

Knowledge: 80 hours ground school (20 hours for holders of CPL-A) Pass the Transport Canada flight test Pass the written exam (60% or better) |

The following are Transport Canada's minimum requirements. The amount of training required will vary, based on individual experience levels.
50 hours of cross-country flight as pilot-in-command 40 hours of instrument time (a maximum of 20 hours instrument ground time) Pass the flight test in a helicopter. Pass the written exam (INRAT) with at least 70%. |
